NIU’s second-year students are encouraged to participate in any of eighteen service events on campus and in the DeKalb and Sycamore communities during the month of February as part of Sophomore Days of Service (SDoS) sponsored by the NIU’s First- and Second-Year Experience Office.

SDoS is a month filled with community service opportunities that are designed to engage and connect second-year students within the community in a short 2-3 hour, one time volunteer commitment. Student volunteers from last year’s events stated the felt the made a difference in their community through simple acts of service.

The 2017 Sophomore Days of Service Locations include:

Thursday, February 2- Barb Food Mart, 4:30 – 6 p.m., 1515 South 4th Street, Door 28

Thursday, February 2- Huskie Student Food Pantry, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. & 12 -2 p.m., Chick Evans Field House

Friday, February 3- TAILS Humane Society, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., 2250 Barber Green Rd.

Saturday, February 4- Raven’s Husky Haven & Rescue, 12-2 p.m., 27779 Five Point Rd

Monday, February 6- Communiversity Gardens, 5-7 p.m., Altgeld Hall Room 100

Tuesday, February 7- Campus Childcare, 2:30-5:30 p.m., Campus Childcare Building

Thursday, February 9- Barb City Manor, 6-8 p.m., 680 Haish Blvd, IL

Sunday, February 12- Kishwaukee YMCA, 6:30a.m.-9:30 a.m. & 9 a.m. – noon, 2500 W. Bethany Rd.

Monday, February 13- Campus Childcare, 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m., Campus Childcare Building

Although Sophomore Days of Service is targeted for second-year students, any student can sign up online. All events are Business Passport & Honors Engaged approved. (Blood drive will not count towards Honors Engaged).
